According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE), as of 1:42pm last Tuesday, a total of 15,858 online applicants had registered for the RN Heals employment program. DoLE spokesperson Nicon Fameronag said that this figure is just after one day and a half of launching the program and it does not even include the walk-in applicants in the regional offices.

Last year some 5,000 to 6,000 nurses were hired by the government for a period of six months under the NARS program. This time the RN Heals project will employ 10,000 nurses for a period of 1 year.

Qualifications for the RN Heals Program

  1. Physically and mentally fit
  2. Licensed by the Professional Regulation Commission
  3. Preferably a resident of the area where he or she would be deployed

The government would begin deploying the nurses by February 11, 2011.

According to the statistics, there are an estimated 100,000 unemployed nurses in the Philippines. Another 20,000 to 40,000 will be added when the December 2010 Nursing Board Exam Result comes out in February or March of this year.
