Pinoy nurse lauded in Washington DC Posted: 10 Nov 2009 11:50 PM PST The Philippine Embassy in Washington DC, USA has lauded a Filipina who was chosen as one of this year's student scholars of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA). Philippine Ambassador to the United States Willy Gaa cited Melanie Singh for being chosen as one of the 15 undergraduate scholars of the APNA-Janssen Student Scholarship Program and the only Filipina to receive the said scholarship this year. In a letter to Singh, Gaa emphasized that the scholarship award "reflects highly of her academic performance and professional potential." "The scholarship award likewise underscores your exceptional ability to maintain your deep socio-civic and cultural involvement, particularly in promoting your Filipino heritage, at Catholic University of America and throughout the District 6 membership," Ambassador Gaa stated in his letter to Singh. Singh will be studying at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC, a national university of the Catholic Church and the only higher education institution founded by the US bishops.
